MURDER IN DREAMLAND: March 2009

Performance-installasjonen "Murder in Dreamland" vil kunne oppleves i fossen og elveløpet bak Arena Vestfossen den 2 mai i tidsrommet mellom 13- 17.

Offisiell start fra kl 14.

Området er en gammel Cellulosefabrikk omgjort til et sentrum for samtidskunst. Senteret består av gallerier, atelier og scenerommet. Scenerommet er en del av Arena Vestfossen - 4000 m2 kunst og design. To åpninger finner sted den 2 mai på dette stedet:

The concept involves 13 international interdisciplinary artists and will execute a 4 hour performance installation at the sight specific place by, in, and over the river Vestfossen at the backside of Arena Vestfossen. A plot that reconstructes a murder case on the sight will be executed in real time, where the viewers can follow the action guided by time codes on a map, or seen through a parallell video projection on the entry wall at Arena Vestfossen. The collage will be launched in connection with the opening of the summer season at Arena Vestfossen and Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium, one of the major contemporary art event in Norway, just outside the capital Oslo, at the 2nd of May 2009.

The Plot

After a grand opening of an art exhibition, in the remote little town of Vestfossen, the host has invited all the 12 artists and guests for a dinnerparty. The huge table is set in the middle of the river, the chandeleirs are lit up, the red table cloth is set with dishes with hanging grapes, exotic fruit, and a pork with an apple in his mouth... all of it ready to be consumed... Among the guest is an agent, and so is a famous blond, a young starlet, two rebels, a local singer, a bookkeeper, a black gardener, a snooper, a correspondent, a witness and a spider. The party unfolds. The tension between the guest is building up. Some are eating or dancing on the table, and their discussion is heating up. A catfight between the famous and the local breaks out. A load discussion between the host and the correspondent, turns into a fistfight between the host and the agent.... First to leave the party is the spider... Next morning the agent is informed of the murder of a young girl. The dead Starlet is found laying on the ground among a large amount of unidentified black objects. By the time the investigators arrives, her body has disappeared.... Suddenly two other girls are found dead. The agent is interrogating.... A car was seen driving away with one of the victims... Screams were heard in an abandoned silo... He further reveals that four of the guests is having a relationship, giving them a possible motive after a crazy night in Vestfossen... The case is moving towards total chaos –where everybody is found with a motive to kill... The agent is given no other choice than regathering them all on a net hanging over a waterfall. With no chance to escape they are all forced to surrender to the truth...

31 of March, Loan, Danuta, Jon, Anwar and Ella on sight

We walked through the sight, looking at where the Net allready once had been attached, which was over the waterfall –under the bridge! The river was frozen when we attached it in February, so to see it now with a little running (white) water, gave us a thrill for how it will be to perform on the Net –with the waterfall in full speed, running through the lower end of the Net...

Further down we suddely saw something...

it was a dead swan...

how did it end up like this...

it kind of looked alive.. the body was trapped in the water, but the neck was still free and floting in the stream...

We felt a stange connection to the sight, or the sight was trying to give us a clue...

”Murder in Dreamland” er et nytt kunst konsept som tar utgangspunkt i en sight hvor et nett, fra The Net of Pas De Deux, av og med Fiskum og Adhana, skal henges over Vestfossen, og ytterlige involvere 11 tverrfaglige kunstnere og publikum i anledning sesongåpningen av Arena Vestfossen og Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium 2 mai 2009. Gjennom flere workshops hvor temaer og spørsmål skal utprøves, skal konseptet resulter i en 4 timers lang performance-installasjon, hvor dans og performance, skulpturer, installasjoner, lyd, tekst, video, og musikk skal utgjøre et nytt kollektivt kunstuttrykk som skal fremføres med nær tilnærming og indirekte medvirkning av publikum.

Ozdowski, Loan Tp Hoang, Morten Liene, Inger Reidun Olsen, Loverangers (Laura Christina Brøvig Vallenes and Kristina Knaben Hennestad), Elisabeth Nøkland Johansen, and Anwar Saab.
